DOG LAUGHS – TBT: Frodo The Sheltie – Calling It

I know, I know, it’s Friday, but better late than never, right? Enjoy this TBT comic strip.

  • In this Dog Laughs comic strip titled Calling It, Frodo the sheltie and his sister Wendy both want to sleep in dad's bed while he's away. But who will get to sleep in it?
  • Gord is at the door with his bags and Frodo the Sheltie and his sister who only makings snort sounds are seeing him off. Gord says, "Well, you two, I'm going on a trip" Wendy quickly lets out a snorting sound.
  • Frodo the sheltie sitting next to his sister, says, "Dibs on the bed!" cause he wants to sleep next to mum, while dad is away.
  • wendy the sheltie, who is a little upset that she wasn't heard when she snorted. she snorts again but a little stronger. Frodo the sheltie is a bit surprised and says, "Geez...What? I just said dibs.
  • after Frodo the sheltie defended his point about calling dibs first, Wendy, his sister snorted really loud in Frodo's face, totally startling him
  • Frodo the sheltie, rather annoyed, says, "Well, apparently, snort means digs in Piglish. I did not know that." Piglish is a fictitious name for a language, Frodo is making up in light of the sound Wendy makes.

DOG LAUGHS: What If

Today’s comic strip is in memory of David McDougall, founder of the Nemaline Myopathy Support Group. He was a dear friend and hero. NM is something I have lived all of my life. Click here to learn more about NM and what David did.

  • George the sheltie puppy is talking to his human dad, Gord, who is sitting in a wheelchair as asks, "Hey, ever fantasize about Being a superhero? You know, saving the world, stopping crime, and all that?" Gord replies in curiosity, "Yeah, what would that be like? the next panel shows an alternate reality.
  • the panel shows a fictitious city under attack by an alien spaceship, from which you can hear maniacal laughter. The narrative caption reads: 'The good people of New Border City cower in their homes, terrified of the Dreadful Zaraxis, who has taken over. Will the people lose all hope? Where is their hero when they need him most?' the next panel we will see Gord in a superhero costume standing in front of his sheltie puppy.
  • in this alternate reality, Gord is standing in front of George his sheltie puppy. Gord is wearing a superhero costume that is white with black stripes. Gord says to George, "The good people of New Border City cry out in fear! I must go, for they are in grave danger!" George appears saddened upon hearing this and says, "Really?... It's just..." and George finishes this thought in the following panel.!
  • George the sheltie puppy continues to say what is on his heart to Gord who is dressed in a white with black stripes superhero costume: "It’s our night to watch reruns of The Golden Girls. Blanche is dating an aerobics instructor."
  • George and Gord, who is still in his superhero costume, which is white with black stripes, are sitting on the couch watching The Golden Girls. George looks happy and says in comment of Gord's costume, "By the way, nice alter ego. What is it, The White Tiger." Gord simply replies, "Zebra-Man"

Shelties, shepherding is in their blood. Bred in Scotland for this very purpose, it’s no wonder they have a strong urge to do it. In fact, they’ll herd just about anything. Shelties are intelligent and agile dogs, and they are very good at following commands. They are also very protective of their flock. So when Frodo, a city sheltie, visited a farm for the first time, you would think he would know what to do. Well…

Imagine isto: É meio-dia, estamos com pressa e queremos que nosso novo filhote faça cocô no gramado. Já passamos por isso antes. Algumas coisas estão fora do nosso controle. Podemos querer que ele faça o que precisa ser feito, mas ele quer comer a grama, mastigar um graveto, brincar com a formiga que passa pelo seu focinho ou talvez apenas falar sobre trevos. Mas se formos pacientes o suficiente, talvez possamos aprender alguma coisa.
